The Asteria Story: expanding through investments
Asteria Group began as a family-owned business, Accent, founded in 1985 in Heule, Belgium. Under the visionary leadership of CEO Ives Declerck, the company experienced remarkable growth over the past two decades, transforming from a label specialist into a robust pan-European player. A significant turning point came in 2019 with the investment from Waterland. Since this investment, Asteria evolved from a single company specializing in label printing to an international group with 33 companies spanning from Estonia to Spain.
The strength of Asteria lies in the DNA shared by all its companies, where customers have always been at the center of operations. This customer-centric approach ensures that, due to the company’s scale, clients can always be assured of continuity and capacity. This approach has fueled Asteria’s expansion, beginning with acquisitions in Belgium and extending to neighboring countries like the Netherlands, France, and Germany. The group’s reach then expanded further north to Denmark and south to Spain.
A significant milestone was achieved in 2021 with the acquisition of Coruñesa de Etiquetas (Coreti) in Spain, a company boasting a turnover of EUR 20 million and 110 employees. This acquisition broadened Asteria’s portfolio exponentially, marking its ambition to become a solid pan-European player offering a wide range of packaging products for customers of all sizes. Today, this ambition is a reality.
Asteria’s growth continued in Northern Europe, including the acquisition of a company with an office in Finland and two production sites in Estonia, where it is the market leader.
Asteria Group is selective about the companies it integrates, ensuring they possess an entrepreneurial DNA characterized by extreme flexibility and rapid delivery service. The company prides itself on its heritage as a family-led business and naturally connects with similar companies in every country it enters. Each company in the portfolio brings local specialties and a dedicated clientele, creating a rich exchange of heritage and experience within the Asteria Group.
Under Declerck’s leadership, Asteria Group continues to expand its footprint while maintaining the core values that have driven its success since its inception
“Our partnership with Waterland has been instrumental in our accelerated growth,” says CEO Ives Declerck. “Since our collaboration began, we have demonstrated how the buy-and-build strategy can be successfully deployed. Asteria Group stands as a prime example of how this approach can drive rapid and sustainable expansion.”
