Judy Martins joined Waterland in 2006 and is currently General Counsel and Compliance Officer of the Waterland Group.
Before, Judy worked ten years in the trust sector at Rokin Corporate Services (trust department at that time of Dutch law firm Stibbe) and at ATC Trustees (currently Intertrust Group). Judy obtained a Master’s degree in Law from the Free University of Amsterdam, specialising in the area of company law. Before her law studies, Judy studied Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam and Culture, Organisation and Management, with focus on change management, at the Free University of Amsterdam.
Judy has taken on several non-executive board positions in the past years and completed the INSEAD International Directors Program, (IDP-C). She is an active member of the compliance knowledge group at the Dutch Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (NVP). Furthermore, she is a member of the Dutch Association of Compliance Officers (participating in knowledge table Systematic Integrity Risk Analysis) and the German Institute for Corporate Lawyers (Diruj) General Counsel leadership circle. In Belgium she is a member of Instituut voor bedrijfsjuristen Belgium/ Institut des juristes d’enterprise. In the Netherlands Judy is advocaat in dienstbetrekking/ attorney at law (without “derdengeldenrekening”, which means she is an attorney at law employed by Waterland only within the meaning of article 5.9 (g) of the Dutch Legal Profession By-Laws (Verordeing op de advocatuur or “Voda”). She is registered with general legal practice area of private law in the Netherlands Bar register, which means she is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in the principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar. Judy is also a Certified Data Protection Officer (certificate of Data Protection Institute Belgium: https://www.dp-institute.eu/nl/opleidingen).
